FRIDAY 4TH MARCH & SATURDAY 5TH MARCH 2016

1916 EXHIBITION in HALLA ACLA
An exhibition of artifacts, images, information, associated with the Rising of 1916 will be held at Hala Acla, Achill Sound. John O’Callaghan will speak on the Easter Rising and the vision of the Rebels on Friday at 8.00pm. On Saturday evening Ms Margaret Roche (M.Phil.) will speak on the women of the Rebellion in a talk entitled “Splendidly Silenced”.

Artwork produced by the pupils of the National Schools and Essays on the Rising by pupils of Coláiste Pobail Acla will be on display during the weekend and Prizes will be awarded on the Saturday evening. Prizes kindly sponsored by Cregal Art, Galway and another kind donor.

Musical entertainment will add to the atmosphere. Admission to the Exhibition is Free.

Wednesday 16th March

WELCOME HOME NIGHT – FESTIVAL LAUNCH
“The 16th March has for over a century been associated with emigrants returning to play in the famous pipe bands of Achill on St Patrick’s Day” – GIELTY’S CLEW BAY @ 9.30pm.


Thursday 17th March

Achill Pipe Bands
6am – Rèville – “The big drum is sounded at 6am to wake up and summon the members of the Achill Bands. A tradition that stretches back to the land wars”

8am – 6pm – Traditional St Patrick’s Day Parade. Established in 1882 and held every year since. After 12pm Mass all pipe bands congregate at The Church of Assumption, Dookinella.

9am – Aifreann Gaeilge (Mass in Irish) St Patrick’s Church, Pollagh.

THE YELLOW LADY DESIGN CENTRE – Open daily from 17th March– 3rd April 2016 between 1pm – 5pm.


Friday 18th March

PURE MAGIC – Kiddies Disco 4pm – 6pm. Admission €4. Family Ticket €10.

The “DAY AFTER” session in GIELTY’S CLEW BAY 4pm till late “Another long standing tradition in Achill with locals and visiting musicians”.


Saturday 19th March

BIG RED BARN at Ted’s Bar – EXPO ACHILL 2016 is an exhibition to present all products and services that are produced, traded or available in the area. Open from 12 noon to 5pm. Admission: Free.


Tuesday 29th March

Big Red Barn – Robot Battles Workshop: This workshop explores the area of robotics by way of robot battles. Children will learn the fundamentals of programming, design, engineering and automation in a fun, energetic environment! Robots will be built with Lego. Workshop Times are as follows and will be age specific: 10.00 – 11.30; 11.45 – 13.15; 13.45 – 15.15; 15.30 – 16.45
These workshops promise to incorporate many elements of fun, whilst educating your child in areas of mathematics, engineering and design. Suitable for boys & girls from the age 6+. For more information contact: (086) 4059460 Admission: €10 per child (family rates available).

Wednesday 30th March

BIG RED BARN at Ted’s Bar – Tommy Marren’s newest play takes to our stage @ 8pm “Nobody’s Talking To Me”. It’s supposed to be a day of special celebration as Mattie and Maggie Conway celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. However, few people know that they haven’t spoken a word to each other in ten years and when the local priest decides to surprise them by calling to their house to renew their marriage vows all hell breaks loose!  Its rip-roaring comedy as Tommy Marren brings to life the follow-up play to the hilarious ‘It’s The Real McCoy’.  Set in rural Ireland in 1968 you better prepare yourself for another night of continuous laughter as ‘Nobody’s Talking To Me’ hits the stage! Admission: €15
