2nd – 6th July: GAA Cúl Camp at Achill Sound

7th July: Achill Half Marathon & 10K

8th July: Keel Currach Races
Races using traditional west of Ireland wooden rowing boats. Venue: Purteen Harbour.

9th – 13th July: FAI Summer Soccer School
At Fr. O’Brien Park, Valley (Achill Rovers F.C.). For further details and online booking, see Sports Direct FAI Summer Soccer Schools.

9th – 13th July: Outdoor Activities Summer Camp
Achill Outdoor Activities Centre offers a summer camp with activities including Surfing, Kayaking, Canoeing, Coasteering, Rockclimbing, Archery, Mountain Boarding and Team Games. 10am – 15.00pm each day, €80 for the week or €20 per day.

11th July: Kid’s Party Night
Every Wednesday at Gielty’s Clew Bay, Dooagh. 7pm – 9pm.

13th July: Dooagh Day Welcome Home Night
Sing song and craic at the opening of the Dooagh Day festival. IrishAmerican Irish Whiskey, Achill’s new business, will do a tasting. Venue: Gielty’s Clew Bay, Dooagh. 9.30pm.

14th – 16th July: Dooagh Day
Annual family fun festival in the village of Dooagh. See Dooagh Day facebook page for details.

19th – 21st July: Irish National Sheepdog Trials

21st July: Purteen Day ***POSTPONED***
Festival at Purteen Harbour celebrating the harvest of the sea. 1pm – 5pm.

21st – 22nd July: Mayo International Kite Festival
Following last year’s inaugural Mayo International Kite Festival, Pure Magic is hosting another event – bigger and better – in Keel.

21st – 22nd July: Achill Back-to-Back Half, Full & Ultra Marathon
The Achill Ultra event returns with the first of two half, full and ultra marathon running events on Achill’s spectacular Atlantic Drive. More Details.

22nd July: RNLI Open Day ***POSTPONED***
Open Day at the RNLI lifeboat station at Kildavnet.

27th July – 4th August: Scoil Acla
Annual Scoil Acla summer school, with tuition in music, writing, drama and art.

Friday 27th July: Brendan Grace
At Óstán Oileán Acla, Achill Sound. In aid of RNLI.

Saturday 28th July: Coda
At Óstán Oileán Acla, Achill Sound. Mayo-based group singing folk, contemporary and original songs.

Sunday 29th July: St. Colman’s Féte
Annual community and family fun day at St. Colmans, Keel. All welcome.

Monday 30th July: Monster Bingo
At the marquee, St. Colmans, Keel. All welcome.

5th August: Colour Run Achill

4th – 6th August: Feile Inis Bigil
Annual community festival on Inishbiggle Island.

6th -10th August: FAI Summer Soccer School

10th – 12th August: Tarry Fest
Festival celebrating the community of Dookinella.

Achill Archaeological Field School hosts this one-day pop-up exhibition. 11am – 6pm.

25th – 26th August: Achill Back-to-Back Half, Full & Ultra Marathon
The Achill Ultra event returns with its second half, full and ultra marathon running event of the year. More Details.


September 2018

2nd September: Tour de Achill
Cycling event organised by Achill Wheelers cycling club, with choice of 38km, 65km or 110km routes.

8th September: QUEST Achill
Adventure racing (cycling / running / kayaking) with three levels of difficulty.

15th – 23rd September: Talking Walls Festival
A festival of discovery to Achill Island, through buildings, walks, talks, art, drama and much, much more!! See facebook page for full details.

28th – 30th September: Battle For The Lake
Annual kitesurfing competition and music festival.

Achill GAA Healthy Clubs Walking Weekend.


October 2018

13th October: Currane Challenge
Annual duathlon event in Currane involving cycle and hill climb. Details and booking on www.curranechallenge.com.

14th October: Achill Sheep Show

12th – 14th October: Achill Dry Stone Wall Festival 2018
Music, food, guided walk and dry stone wall building. More details.

26th – 29th October: Achill International Harp Festival
