US TV network ABC has made available on YouTube its ‘On The Red Carpet‘ episode on the making of The Banshees of Inisherin. The 30 minute programme provides an in-depth look at the making of the movie and includes clips from all the Achill locations.
The programme is peppered with never-before-seen footage taken behind the cameras, including Achill landscapes and scenes with local extras. The section on the choice of Achill as a location begins at 13 minutes, with Writer & Director Martin McDonagh, Cinematographer Ben Davis and Locations Manager Eoin Holohan detailing what they were looking for from the Achill Island locations.


It includes an interview with Production Designer Mark Tildesley (approx. 16.30 mins) who talks about the decision to construct JJ Devine’s pub at Cloughmore, on Achill’s Atlantic Drive.

Also interviewed was Costume Designer Eimer Ní Mhaoldomhnaigh (approx. 18.45 mins) who spoke about the choice of colours in the costumes used for this period piece. The footage includes some shots of extras in their costumes.

Cinematographer Ben Davis revealed that has favourite shot of the movie was at Keem Bay, when Kerry Condon (playing Siobhán Súilleabháin) stormed across the beach to confront Brendan Gleeson (Colm Doherty):
