COVID-19 Information for Achill Residents

UPDATE OCTOBER 2020 Following a number of local cases of COVID-19 we have reactivated Tuesday shopping delivery in addition to Saturday deliveries and urge all higher-risk residents to avail of this free service.

Achill Tourism is providing a helpline to co-ordinate requests for shopping and help from a team of community volunteers during the COVID-19 public health crisis. Call us on 098 20400 (Monday – Saturday, 9.00am – 5.00pm). Shopping is delivered by LocalLink on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Orders must be placed with us by 5pm on the day before delivery. Email orders on or phone to Achill Tourism 098 20400.

This home delivery service is completely free and is available to any resident who requires it.

Place order by 5pm on Mondays for delivery on Tuesdays.
Place order by 5pm on Fridays for delivery on Saturday.

Health & Safety Guidelines: Please observe safe health guidelines during this time:

  • Wear a mask or face covering in indoor public spaces.
  • Wash your hands well and often
  • Cover your mouth or nose when coughing or sneezing (and discard used tissues safely)
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands
  • Clean and disinfect touched objects and surfaces
  • Stop shaking hands or hugging when meeting others
  • Reduce social interactions
  • Practice social distancing – min. 2m
  • Avoid unnecessary journeys

Achill Doctors, with many public and community services in Achill have come together to continue existing and provide extra services during the COVID-19 pandemic:

Please phone for appointments; the doctor / nurse will advise you on what to do. Pollagh Surgery is no longer dispensing prescriptions. All prescriptions will be dispensed from Achill Sound pharmacy. Call (098) 45248 to arrange collection of your medication.

Molloys Pharmacy, Achill Sound (098) 45248

The pharmacy will contact you with a pick-up time. If you wish to have your prescription delivered to your home, please advise. The shop floor at Molloys is now closed to customers. Keel has a limited service: Friday (10am – 11am) & Saturday (3pm – 4pm). One customer at a time is in operation.

A co-ordination centre has been established at Achill Tourism. The phone line will operate 9am – 5pm, seven days a week. A list of volunteers has been drawn up for every area in Achill. These will be contacted by the co-ordination centre after your phone call. You should call this Helpline if you wish to avail of non-medical services from volunteers, eg. shopping brought to your door; posting letters; putting out bins; a social phone call; etc. Please note, this is a confidential service.
