23rd – 26th October: Achill International Harp Festival
Fourth year of this fast-growing international festival celebrating Ireland’s national musical instrument. This year’s event is virtual, taking place online. See achillharpfestival.ie.
26th October: October Bank Holiday
31st December: New Year’s Eve
A unique Achill welcome for 2021 in the villages of Dooagh, Pollagh and Keel as their respective pipe bands welcome the New Year at midnight. Details for 2020 yet to be confirmed.
1st January: New Year’s Day Swim
Welcome the New Year with a bracing dip in Achill’s Atlantic waters. Fundraiser for Achill RNLI. Dugort beach 1pm. ***This event is yet to be confirmed***
6th January: Nollaig na mBan
“Women’s Christmas”, traditionally a day when the woman of the house is treated. Why not have a meal out in one of Achill’s restaurants and cafes?
14th February: Valentine’s Day
Why not celebrate this lover’s day with a winter beach walk followed by a spot of dinner in Achill? Or make a weekend break for it (14th February is a Sunday)?
17th March: St. Patrick’s Day
Bank Holiday for Ireland’s national day. Traditionally in Achill the village pipe bands march to Dookinella and back. ***Pipe band marches yet to be confirmed***
2nd April: Good Friday
Public (but not Bank) holiday, start of the Easter Weekend.
5th April: Easter Monday
Bank Holiday in Ireland.
3rd May: May Day
7th June: June Bank Holiday
3rd July: Achill Half Marathon & 10K
Half marathon and 10K run event on a spectacular course on Achill Island.
24th – 30th July: Scoil Acla
Traditional Irish summer school with music, dance, arts and culture tutorials and concerts.
2nd August: Bank Holiday
August Bank holiday Monday.
Battle for the Lake
Kitesurfing and music festival in Keel. Dates TBC.
