2nd September – Tour de Achill
Annual cycling event on Achill Island and the Currane Peninsula. Three routes. More details.

29th September to 1st October – Battle for the Lake
Annual kitesurfing and music festival centred on Keel Lake. Includes special appearance by Hothouse Flowers. Tickets on sale now. View more details.

October 2023

30th October – October Bank Holiday (Public Holiday)
October Bank Holiday.

December 2023

31st December – New Year’s Eve
Watch the last sundown from one of the most westerly locations in Europe, then ring in the New Year with Achill’s traditional pipe bands.

January 2024

1st January – New Year’s Day (Public Holiday)
Start the New Year with a bracing dip in the Atlantic at the traditional New Year’s Day Swim at Silver Strand beach, Dugort, 1pm.

February 2024

5th February – Imbolc (Public Holiday)
Public holiday on St. Brigid’s Day, traditionally seen as the beginning of spring.

March 2024

17th March – St. Patrick’s Day
Follow the Achill pipe bands on their traditional St. Patrick’s Day marches in lower Achill.

18th March – St. Patrick’s Day Public Holiday
As the 17th falls on a Sunday, Monday 18th March is a public holiday. Also the date for the ‘day after’ St. Patrick’s Day Parade at Achill Sound.

29th March – Good Friday
Start of the Easter long weekend. Good Friday is a bank holiday but not officially a public holiday in Ireland.

6th May – May Day Bank Holiday

9th – 11th May: Achill Island International Film Festival
