Achill Experience – Aquarium & Visitor Centre

Come to the Achill Experience, immerse yourself in our history, learn about the deserted village, see our rebuilt “Boley House” of times past, touch and feel the displays and understand how people lived.

Visit our Aquarium, the first in Mayo stocked to the brim with fish native to our waters, understand the fishing traditions and seasons. For those following Nemo and friends we have some special treats, our Tropical and Amazonian tanks will let your mind run wild.

Achill is steeped in history, wander the corridors and read the snapshots of Achill’s past that we have produced in a range of display boards telling the stories of religion, emigration, employment, hard times and good times.
We are proud of our artists in Achill – read about Paul Henry, Robert Henri, Heinrich Boll & Graham Greene among others.

Christmas Opening Hours 2025 & January 2026:

The Achill Experience will be opened until the 19th of December from 11:30am with last admissions at 3:15pm.
From the 20th of December until the 26th of December the Achill Experience will be closed for Christmas and will be reopening on the 27th of December for New Years until the 3rd of January.
The Achill Experience will be closed to the public from the 4th of January until the 26th of January for essential maintenance and will be reopening for 2026 on the 26th of January.
