From the back cover:

From Achill’s Atlantic shores. Through a changing world. A lifetime of memories.

Born on the rugged shores of Achill Island in the late 1940s, Mike Gallagher spent his early years in a small stone cottage overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. When circumstances forced his family to leave Ireland, he bagan a journey that took him from the rural west of County Mayo to the working-class streets of Preston and, ultimately, to a rewarding career in the NHS.

A Journey Through Time is a warm, honest and deeply personal memoir of resilience, migration and determination. With quiet humour and vivid storytelling, Mike recalls life in rural Ireland during the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, before reflecting on the challenges and opportunities of building a new life in England.

This is more than one man’s story. It is a tribute to the generations of Irish people who crossed the Irish Sea in search of a better future. Readers who grew up in Ireland, Preston, or elsewhere in Britain during those years will recognise echoes of their own childhoods, families and shared experiences in these pages.
