About St. Colman’s Care Centre CLG
St. Colman’s Care Centre CLG is a voluntary organisation that is responsible for the provision of a comprehensive network of care and social support services within the parish of Achill. St. Colman’s is operated in co-operation with the Health Service Executive and Community Employment Schemes, and is supported by the Achill community.
The service aims to provide care and social support for older people and people with chronic illness and disability, so as to allow them live independently within the community, to promote active and healthy ageing, by providing access to a range of opportunities, information and advocacy, and to provide advice and support to families and carers.
A snap-shot of current services include: day nursing and respite care, home meals, health promotion, physical and occupational therapies, painting group, outings, social gatherings and leisure activities. St. Colman’s is a linked project to Achill Sheltered Housing that provides supported living accommodation and a community laundry.
With only one-third of daily operational costs accrued from statutory sources, St. Colman’s relies heavily on donations and fundraising. The generosity of the Achill community and the Friends of St. Colman’s at home and abroad, has ensured the project’s ongoing viability.
