Clew Bay Bike Trail

Clew Bay Bike Trail

The Clew Bay Bike Trail is a bike and ferry route looping magical Clew Bay in Co. Mayo, visiting both Clare Island and Achill Island. The route includes two short ferry journeys for you and your bike, one from Roonagh Pier, near Louisburgh to Clare Island and the other from Clare Island to Cloughmore near Achill Sound.

The Clew Bay Bike Trail can be cycled in either direction, starting at any point.

The full length of the trail is 105km. This includes 14km on ferries and an optional 10km cycle around Clare Island. The mainland section from Cloughmore on Achill Island to Roonagh is 81km. You can, of course, choose to extend your journey in Achill by cycling one of the three routes in the Achill Cycle Hub.

The section of the route through Achill runs from Cloughmore pier on the Atlantic Drive and goes past Kildavnet Tower (also known as Granuaille’s Castle) and the historic cemetery. It also passes by the start of the Slí Grainne Mhaol loop walk, a 6.7km hillwalking trail offering fabulous views of Achill Sound, Clew Bay and beyond.
