18th – 19th April 2026, Achill & Mulranny
Join us for an unforgettable journey through Achill’s breathtaking landscapes with the Achill Camino Challenge on 18th and 19th April 2026, organised by Achill Tourism.
This two-day walking festival offers three stunning, long-distance walks inspired by the spirit of the Camino, showcasing Achill’s rich heritage, rugged beauty, and warm hospitality.
Each of the three walks will be led by an experienced local guide, sharing local insights, folklore and insight as you journey through Achill’s spectacular scenery. There will also be a social event on the Saturday evening, allowing you to enjoy some ‘ceol agus craic’ and share stories of the day’s hike.
Slievemore to Dooagh Way
Saturday 18th April
- Slievemore to Dooagh and back
- Distance: approx. 10km with 100m ascent
- Duration: 3 – 4 hours
- Grade: Easy / Moderate
Starting at the historic Slievemore cemetery, this route leads towards Dooagh, taking in the stunning Dooagh Loop before returning to Slievemore.
This walk captures Achill’s wild beauty, offering a mix of rugged terrain, coastal scenery, and fascinating historial sites, including the Deserted Village.
Walk starts 10am from Slievemore cemetery. There is ample free parking at the site.
The Coffin Way
Saturday 18th April
- Dookinella to Derreens
- Distance: approx. 18km
- Bus transfer from Dereens to start point
- Duration: 6 – 7 hours, 600m ascent
- Grade: Moderate / Strenuous
Follow the historic Coffin Trail, a traditional funeral route with spectacular views of the Atlantic and Achill’s dramatic cliffs. This path takes you from Dookinella to Derreens along old tracks that have been walks for centuries.
Steeped in history and folklore, this walk is a true pilgrimage experience, offering both challenge and reward.
Meet at Patten’s Bar, Derreens, at 9.30am for bus transfer to walk start point in Dookinella. There is free car parking at Patten’s.

Greenway & Forest Way
Sunday 19th April
- Mulranny to Achill Sound
- Distance: approx. 18k
- Duration: 5 – 6 hours
- Transfer from Achill Sound to start point
- Grade: Moderate
Begin your Achill Camino adventure in Mulranny, following the scenic Great Western Greenway towards Owenduff. From here, step off the Greenway and immerse yourself in the Tonragee forestry, passing through remote and peaceful woodland. Continue towards Belfarsad, before rejoining the Greenway into Achill Sound.
Expect a mix of coastal views, forest trails, and open landscapes.
Meet at Óstán Oileán Acla (F28 EA31) at 9.30am for bus transfer to start point in Mulranny. There is ample free parking at the hotel.
